Natural Remedies // Sick Day Necessities

Well it was inevitable, this mama is sick. I’ve been dreading the day where I would become sick and need to tackle the limitless duties of being a mother. I cannot ever remember my mother being sick growing up; she must have hid it very well because I thought being a mother, you were granted this super-human immune system that enabled you to be around the sickest of people and never catch a single virus. Well I was wrong.

Being a mama, you cannot lounge around in bed aimlessly moping and grunting like I had previously done before. I had to toughen up, dig through my medicine cabinet and wrangled together my sick day necessities. While I’m not claiming any of these favorites will cure, they definitely make my days a little easier when I’m feeling under the weather.

Blueprint Green Juice. Blueprint’s juices are one of my go-to drinks for anything from a midday pick-me-up to a pick-me-up-off-the-floor kind of day. Their green juice does to me when I’m sick what Gatorade did to me during my college hangover days. They pack 6 pounds of leafy greens into this juice and the massive mix of anti-oxidants, beta-carotene, calcium, fiber and Vitamin C is the perfect way to ward off any unwanted sniffles.

Young Living Thieves. This microbial spray is my new “hand sanitizer”. I love the story behind this product as it was created based on research about four thieves in France who covered themselves with cloves, rosemary, and other aromatics while robbing plague victims. The blend of cloves, lemons, cinnamon, rosemary and eucalyptus offers extremely effective immunity support. This stuff is great for anything from taking it orally to bump up your immunity to placing a few drops in your dishwasher to help sanitize and eliminate odors.

Elliot’s Natural Foods Yin Chiao Plus. I learned about Yin Chiao in my Mommy & Me class. We had an herbalist visit and she raved about this ancient Chinese herb. Yin Chiao has been a staple of traditional herbalists and acupuncturists, and a household name in China, for hundreds of years. It’s an herbal combination of immune-boosting herbs such as; honeysuckle flower, Chinese mint leaf, burdock seed, soy sprout, licorice root and many other fortifying herbal treasures. I usually take this when I’m feeling a cold coming on and even give Hera Yin Chiao Junior along with probiotics to help boost her little immune system.

Lupicia Momo Oolong Tea. My mom dropped this tea off at my home awhile back and I had been meaning to try it. Oolong tea, although processed as a black tea, is more like a green tea in it’s benefits. Oolong tea is full of antioxidants that are essentials for good health; they disable free radicals, strengthen the immune system, and protect us from chronic diseases. Not to mention Lupicia’s Momo Oolong tea is incredibly delicious and helps soothe the sorest of throats.

Young Living Aria Ultrasonic Diffuser + Essential Oils. The Aria diffuser is actually a “wish list” item of mine. I currently have a small ultrasonic diffuser that gets the job done, but this baby is the cadillac of diffusers. I would love to have this diffuser in my home one of these days. I have Young Living’s Peppermint and Lavender essential oils which are amazing for colds. I put a couple drops of the peppermint oil in my diffuser and once the mist hits the air my nasal passages immediately open and my head clears when the hint of peppermint fills the room. I put a few drops of lavender oil in my hands, rub my palms together and give myself a mini foot massage which creates an instant calming effect over my entire body. I was recently turned onto this brand from my friend and fellow blogger, Alesya. Thank for you introducing me to my current obsession.

TheraPearls Eye-sential Eye Mask. This  multipurpose mask makes even the darkest of days easier to manage. It can be chilled to help alleviate sinus pressure and headaches and can also be heated to help reduce nasal congestion. It’s so relaxing and rejuvenating at the same time. I love to heat it up right before bedtime to help aid in a more peaceful sleep and then chill it for a morning session to wake me up leaving me feeling refreshed and ready to tackle my day.

There you have it; my sick day necessities. I hope you stay healthy this flu season but if you find yourself under the weather like me I highly recommend giving these things a try. Stay healthy.
