Natural Burn Balm

This Summer has been a scorcher in Los Angeles, and it’s technically only the “second day” of Summer. You bet you’ll be finding us by the beach well into August, September for that matter. And even though I’m continuously applying endless amounts of sunscreen, this one is currently my favorite, there are times when the sun wins and the end of the day I’m left with red shoulders. Luckily, the inter webs have a solution for everything and this time it happens to be an natural remedy! I whipped up some DIY natural burn balm, and man – it does the trick. (Side note: It also leaves me smelling like a tropical vacation.) So if you’re like me and happen to fall victim to sunburnt shoulders (or any body part for that matter) give this simple DIY a try! You might be surprised to learn that you most likely have these ingredients in your pantry already! I’ve also included a simple and chic printable label in the off chance you want to share these as gifts.
To Create This Burn Balm, you’ll need the following:
¼ Cup of Organic Raw Honey
¼ Cup of Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil
½ teaspoon of Organic Aloe Vera Gel
10 drops of 100% Pure Lavender Essential Oil
10 drops of 100% Pure Peppermint Essential Oil
Tin Containers or Glass Jars
Printable Burn Balm Labels, optional

Method //

Using the double boiler method, melt the honey and coconut oil over the lowest heat setting possible. Continue mixing until there are no more clumps and everything has completely liquified. This happens very quickly.

Remove the mixture from the heat and add in the essential oils and aloe gel. Pour directly into tins or glass jars. Place in the fridge until they are fully hardened. I love to keep mine in the fridge because the added comfort of a cool balm is that much better for sunburnt skin.

Summer Bucket List 2016.

Happy Summer Solstice to you all. How are you guys celebrating the longest day of the year? We’re currently outside playing in a makeshift pool, throwing back popsicles and soaking up some Vitamin D. With the first official day of Summer finally upon on I figured what better day than today to create my Summer Bucket List. I’m hoping I can cross each and every single task off my list this year.

1. Go Camping Like real outdoors, in a tent, under the stars type of camping.
2. Go on a breakfast date with my husband.
3. Make more crafts.
4. BBQ like twice a week.
5. Have a tech-free day.
6. Do good, whether that’s volunteering or hosting an independent beach clean up.
7. Get the backyard landscaped, our backyard is just dirt right now and is in no way summer ready. I’d love to have a spot to entertain and let Hera play!
8. Spend the whole day at the beach.
9. Be spontaneous.
10. Take a girls’ trip.
11. Say yes to something I’d normally say no to.
12. Listen to more music, the concerts in the park near us are amazing!
13. Blog more, for real.
14. Travel somewhere new.
15. Stay positive, worry less.

… and most importantly, be more selfish. I always put Hera first – as it should be – but I’d love to take some time to myself whether that be buying that dress I’ve been eyeing or treating myself to a pedicure more than once a year.

What’s on your bucket list this Summer?

summer sour acv drink.

Okay truth, I have a sweet tooth. Not like a “oh yeah, I love cookies too!” kind of sweet tooth, more like an “I just consumed 2 king size tootsie rolls while I waited for my car to be washed” kind of sweet tooth. I have been reading a lot lately about controlling the mind’s cravings whether it be junk food, laziness, or moods and I have to say I’m learning a lot. Anyways, during my research I found these awesome sweet drinks that are actually low in sugar and high in health benefits and I have to say that when I’m craving something sweet, I calm the “Pig” (have you read Never Binge Again by Glenn Livingston? by tricking my mind into thinking it’s getting what it wants. Tricking yourself? It’s some crazy Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde stuff right here. Anyways, I’m sure you’ve heard the crazy good health benefits that Apple Cider Vinegar offers right? To start it aids in weight loss, tricking your body into feeling full. (There goes that trickery again!) Aside from that it also prevents Diabetes, lowers cholesterol, aids in digestion, increases energy and overall detoxes the body. Why wouldn’t you drink this stuff? Well it’s pretty hard to get down. I personally don’t mind the taste of vinegars such as Kombucha but when mixing this stuff with a little flavor, I could drink it all day. Plopping a few drops of flavored stevia makes this stuff amazing, I would compare it to almost that of Jolly Rancher! Give this stuff a try, even if it doesn’t quiet the “Pig” then to give your body that extra love it deserves.

Summer Sour ACV Drink
Makes 1 serving.
1½ Cups of Alkaline Water
1 Tablespoon of Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar, I use Bragg’s!
28 Drops of Watermelon Flavored Stevia Drops, I use Sweet Leaf’s!
1 Cup of Ice

Method //
Add Alkaline water, apple cider vinegar and stevia drops – mix to combine. Pour over ice and enjoy.

Natural Ant Spray

We just came back from a wonderful trip from the East Coast to home full of ants, not quite the “welcome home” party I was expecting. With this abnormally hot summer/fall we’ve been having in Los Angeles lately has really brought out all the creepy critters. So to combat this I went straight to my essential oils and concocted an all natural “ant spray” to take back my home. I love this stuff because not only is it effective but it smells great and I know it’s safe to use around my daughter.

Natural Ant Spray

1 Cup of Distilled Water
½ Cup of Witch Hazel
20-25 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil
20-25 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil
10 drops of Grapefruit Essential Oil
10 drops of Clove Essential Oil

Method
Combine all ingredients into a spray bottle and shake. This works great because the blend of oils help masks their scent trails as well as contains natural occurring chemicals, which are safe to humans but toxic to ants. Spray as needed or around the baseboards and entry ways to prevent ants from visiting.

Natural Remedies // Tangerine Rug Refresher

Okay, let’s have an honest moment here. I’m the type of girl who loves, I mean obsesses, over a clean house – but I loathe cleaning. Like, the thought of unloading the dishwasher gives me hives. But, it’s a chore and no one loves chores – at least I don’t think so, but it has to get done. These days I’m shocked by what Hera finds in our carpets and rugs, don’t get me started on this “Googly Eye” situation we’ve got going on. Anyways, being this psuedo-clean freak that I’d like to think I am I whipped up a quick batch of the easiest carpet refresher! Have you read the back of those commercial carpet refreshers? They are almost all toxic chemicals! Yuck! Anyways, you can’t go wrong with good ‘ole baking soda – add a few drops of Tangerine Oil and you’ve got the brightest, cheeriest, most deliciously refreshed rugs and carpet and NO CHEMICALS!

Tangerine Rug Refresher

1 Cup of All Natural Baking Soda
20 Drops of Tangerine Essential Oil

Combine the two ingredients in a glass jar, secure with a lid and give a good shake. Sprinkle on your rugs or carpet and let it side for about 10 – 15 minutes before vacuuming it up.

Do you hate hate cleaning as much as I do? Any tips on getting me excited to clean? (Probably not.)

Style // What Hera Wore.

Our weekend adventures never cease to amaze me. It is astonishing how much I manage to fit into two consecutive days versus the five usually unproductive days during the week. The weather here in Los Angeles has been a bit odd, it’s hot, muggy and humid – not my cup of tea. So lately for running around town I’ve been putting Hera in as little of clothing as possible. However, to abstain from becoming one of the moms who takes their child out in public wearing nothing but a diaper, she’s been living in rompers like these lately. We’ve also been discovering our new toys! Hera received so many gifts for her baby shower, I had to store away some of the toys until she was old enough to play with them. I’ve been pulling one out after the other. I can’t believe my baby is 7 months old! How was your weekend? Is the weather nicer where you’re at?

What Hera Wore. Romper. Peek! Little Peanut “Baby Brighton Bloomer” (No longer available. Similar one here.). // Headband. DIY! // Toy Camera. It’s Vintage, but a few can be found here. // Moccasins. Freshly Picked.
